FLUSHING IT OUT with Samantha Spittle

Samantha Spittle, the introvert’s extrovert, talks to people so you don’t have to… for now. She has always been a ‘people person,’ gleaning wisdom and life lessons from everyone she meets.

Samantha started the podcast Flushing It Out with her husband, Jeremy, as a way to share those conversations.  She feels that through authentic, vulnerable conversations, we can all feel more connected and less alone in this world.

In 2020, to continue her efforts to help people feel more connected, Samantha launched a video series exploring the Northern Virginia area, finding hidden gems for people to enjoy, safe social distancing.

Interviewing people has given Samantha insight in how people are able to turn their hopes, dreams, setbacks, heartaches, and more into triumph. Samantha has experienced how important it is to have a full “resiliency bank” in your own life to draw strength from when you experience hard times. She is passionate about sharing those stories with others.

Why Flushing It Out?

Warning: TMI but I promise, it’s worth it.

After a rather unfortunate bathroom accident in 2012 and promising to take that story to her grave (which lasted about 4 hours), Samantha learned a valuable lesson.  After telling her husband and friends about that fateful day to get a few laughs, she realized that lots of people have done it and simply kept the story to themselves (which she doesn’t blame them for one bit).

Realizing the amount of shame she felt over something so trivial struck a chord in her.  Truth be told, Flushing It Out, is a little bit of a ‘bait and switch.’ Although the concept came from some potty humor and Samantha rarely misses an opportunity for a joke, she has a heart for sitting in the ashes when needed and continuing to walk through life with people, talking about the hard, complicated, and messy stuff.

How many people are walking around feeling like they are the only ones hurting and suffering?  How many people swear to take something to the grave only to have it slowly destroy them? Shame lives in the dark. Her hope is that if we can break the ice with something trivial, have a good laugh, we can build those connections needed to talk about the really hard but meaningful stuff. When we see our stuff and share our stuff, we can begin to heal our stuff.

Join her as she flushes it out.

The Podcast’s Mission

Flushing It Out’s mission is to connect people, helping them feel seen and see others by sharing our common experiences, thoughts, feelings, and more.  We aim to accomplish this by sitting down and having a fun conversation but also getting to the “real stuff,” usually the thoughts and feelings we keep below the surface and/or don’t tend to share with people.  Our goal is that over time, people will see the power of having conversations in their own lives and how being vulnerable and open can lead to genuine connection.
