Ambition
Ambition is defined as a strong desire to do or achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work. Whenever I think of ambitious people, I always think of those that are super successful in their career, sport, or hobby, which means I have never really thought of myself as ambitious since that definition of success always seemed just out of reach and evasive.
I have never felt like I excelled at anything. Sports, fitness, and pretty much any physical activity has always been a struggle for me. I always enjoyed school and did well, but never felt like I went above and beyond. I often feel like I am a “good enough” person; if I don’t set the bar too high, I don’t have to stress out or feel bad if I don’t meet my goals.
I often joke that I am a “de-motivational speaker” because I would rather sit around and talk about what we are feeling and the “why” behind it rather than jumping to the actual nuts and bolts of something. What’s the point of pursuing any goal if we are going to be miserable when we get there? I’m sure there is some stuff there for me to unpack about why I feel that way, but we’ll save that for another day.
Thankfully, God has put some amazing people in my life including the women in Her Growth Collective. I loved chatting with Ambition Unboxed’s Nicole Maaguo while recording an upcoming episode for Season 2 of my podcast. She is passionate about supporting women and encouraging their ambition. It was during that conversation I realized I am ambitious! I have a strong desire to help myself, my family, and all those I am around to feel comfortable enough to be themselves, to heal past hurts, and continue to grow and learn.
Thanks to the amazing Dawn Geschiere of Yes To Life Coaching, I was reminded that I am relentlessly authentic and vulnerable, loving, brave and courageous, and powerful. I am holding on to these affirmations to remind myself that I am in fact ambitious. I think you are, too, even if you don’t think you are.
Who can you reach out to today to help shift your focus and tap into your ambition? What perspective do you need to shift to see yourself as the badass you are?!?
