Leading Through Change

This week’s Her Growth Collective is all about leading through change.  It’s no accident that this topic fell on the week of the election.  As we continue to wait for the results, it reminds me that the only person we truly have the power to change is ourselves.

How often do we look at others and think how much they need to change?

It is easy to get defeated when there is so much hurt and pain in the world that we want so badly to change.  I’m not saying we shouldn't try to make changes in the world, I’m simply saying that the first and best change we can make is within ourselves.

When we begin to change and really dig into our own thoughts, feelings, and actions, we get a better understanding of ourselves and a clearer lens through which to view the world.  We can identify the places where our energy, gifts, and talents can best be utilized for change in other areas.

Sometimes, on the path to making changes, we stumble and fall.  These setbacks are the best opportunities for us to identify the areas in which we need to continue to do the hard work.

Making changes in our lives is hard. Changing the negative patterns that were established in our childhood is even harder.  If enacting change within ourselves is so hard, then it’s understandable that change can be hard for us as a nation and as a world.

The key is to not lose hope.  When we make the important changes in ourselves and see the good that comes from it, it should help us to stay the course, even when the road is long.

This post is written in partnership with #HerGrowthCollective, encouraging women to walk the path of self-development together.
